Engineering Geologist

Since 2012, I have provided independent engineering geological services across project scales — from site-level evaluations to infrastructure-related hazard assessment. 

Through NVironmental, I provide objective engineering geological assessments supporting infrastructure, development and environmental projects where terrain conditions influence technical decisions.

The focus is on:
• Geological suitability evaluations
• Slope instability and rockfall assessment
• Landslide process interpretation
• Development of 2D and 3D engineering geological models
• Hazard identification and risk-informed inputs for early-stage planning

A strict separation is maintained from design and construction roles, ensuring objective and defensible geological interpretation.

Rockfall Research & Analytical Modelling

Between 2010 and 2020, my doctoral research at the University of Patras focused on rockfall dynamics and slope processes.

The research investigated:
• Energy dissipation mechanisms
• Restitution behaviour of rock impacts
• Trajectory variability
• Interaction between geological structure and hazard expression

Analytical and numerical approaches were applied to bridge field observation and modelling, forming the basis of current quantitative workflows, including restitution parameter calibration and structured GIS integration.
Analytical tools such as Anarock, developed within the context of rockfall research and applied assessment, support parameter calibration and restitution behaviour interpretation in slope hazard studies.
These tools are integrated within broader GIS-based workflows to ensure reproducibility, transparency and technical consistency.

Field Investigation & Ground Behaviour Experience

Prior to and alongside research activity, I supervised and interpreted geotechnical and geological investigation campaigns (2008–2016), including boreholes, in situ testing and geological logging.

Projects included:
• Building foundation investigations
• Port and coastal works
• Wind energy installations

This experience established practical understanding of ground behaviour, investigation uncertainty and the translation of field data into engineering geological interpretation.

Rock Mechanics & Material Behaviour

Experience in rock mechanics laboratory testing strengthened interpretation of intact rock strength, deformability and failure behaviour.

Emphasis was placed on:
• Mechanical and physical characterisation
• Scale effects
• Transfer of laboratory results to field conditions
• Parameter uncertainty in slope stability contexts

This material-level understanding directly supports rockfall and instability assessment.
